To enhance climate resilience and ensure a stable water supply, the water pipeline from Chamgang Balancing Tank to Simtokha Bridge is being realigned along the roadside. This realignment will reduce the risk of landslides, improve maintenance access, and safeguard water availability during extreme weather conditions.
Between 2018 and 2024, six major pipeline breakdowns occurred along this stretch due to unstable soil and landslides, causing repeated disruptions.
By relocating the pipeline to a more stable location along the hillside of the road, this project will help mitigate climate-related risks and ensure a reliable water supply for South Thimphu. The project is valued at 28.270 million Ngultrum under Project Tied Assistance.
The work is progressing well, with 50% of the project already completed. The project is expected to complete before monsoon season. Meanwhile, commuters are requested to be cautious and thank you for understanding the Inconvenience caused.
