To augment the supply of drinking water in South Thimphu, a 2 MLD Water Treatment Plant (WTP) is being constructed near RTC. The WTP is nearing completion and starting January 2022, residents of Serbithang and parts of Babesa will be able to enjoy safe and treated drinking water. This WTP will also help to address the acute shortage of drinking water in the Depsi area.
A 3.5 MLD WTP is also being constructed in Chamgang to provide treated water to the community above and around Semtokha Dzong and parts of Semtokha E4 zone. The project is expected to complete towards the end of 2022.
Both the Treatment Plants will use the existing water source from Chamgang and RTC which has been supplying untreated water to the respective areas.
