Encroachment on state land by illegal/unauthorised structures has become a rising issue in Thimphu City. In addition to it being an offence as per the Land Act of Bhutan 2007 and hampering the public infrastructure development, it has also become a major cause of concern in the Olakha Workshop area when it comes to causing traffic congestion; and overflowing drainage and sewerage leading to poor sanitation and hygiene whilst also being a huge fire hazard. Despite issuing several public notifications and written notices to the individuals since last year, many such structures still haven’t been removed. Therefore, Thimphu Thromde is carrying out demolition work for these structures today at the Olakha workshop. This will also be carried out in other parts of Thimphu Thromde.
