We have seen the recent plea from Bhutan Toilet Org asking us for an explanation regarding the state of the toilets in Ecological Park. Thimphu Thromde carried out a thorough maintenance of the Park including the toilets in November 2021 but within 3 days the doors were broken like they had been numerous times before. For the toilets; previously stolen HDP pipes were replaced and all the taps had running water; and for the parks; maintenance of various structures, painting, plantation, etc were carried out.

The toilets usually remain locked unless there are events at the park as we don't have enough human and financial resources to care for the toilets especially considering the state it is usually left in. Although a pay-and-use system was tested before, with not enough people using the toilets, it became unsustainable.

We have lost count of the number of times the doors have been replaced, windows broken and the HDP pipes and taps stolen. It is also difficult for us to keep replacing these items if they are only going to be stolen/broken a week later. So, if there are any agencies/individuals that might have a solution to these issues, we are happy to listen.
