Brief Background on the Institute
The Extended Classroom of Chamzomtog Lower Secondary School, Located within the Royal Bhutan Police Campus, in Thimphu was known to others as RBP School. It was established in the year 1995with classes PP – II headed by Mrs. Dechen Wangmo, as teacher In-charge with three other teachers. This arrangement was made mainly to ease admission pressure in the school of neighboring areas. Thus the available infrastructure in the school was constructed with support from RBP. HQ Thimphu.
With increasing number of recruitment in the RBP, the number of student admission was on the rise and the parents wanted the school to be upgraded to a independent primary school to enable their children to complete their primary education from the same school. This opinion expressed by parents during the parent teacher meeting was welcomed by the “School Management Board”. It was taken to the Dzongkhag level for discussion. Hence a proposal for segregation was put up to the Education Ministry for approval.
On approval by the Ministry, the school got segregated from parent school vide approval order No. EDN/SLCS/9/2004-05/4020 dated 28/01/2005 of the Education Ministry and is named as “Zilnon Namgyelling Primary School”. The school was then headed by Mrs. Rinchen Dema, Principal and a vice principal Mrs. Dechen Wangmo with 27 teaching staff, a peon and a sweeper w.e.f February 1998 till October 2010.
The year 2005 was a milestone for both teachers and students of Zilnon Namgyeling family as the School had been up graded to Class-VI (six) full-fledged Primary School. With the increase in the enrolment of the students in 2009, one more vice principal Mr. Cheku Wangchuk was placed to ease the administrative matters and for smooth functioning of the school. The academic session 2011 opened with a new principal Mr. Kuenzang Thinley, 2 vice principals and 28 teaching staff.
After successfully serving as the principal for six years Mr. Kuenzang Thinley got transferred to Rinchen Kuenphen Primary School, Thimphu Thromde. The most notable achievement by the school during his tenure as Principal is the first prize award for reading maximum number of books by students in a year at the national level. Besides, Mr. Kuenzang has played a very important role in planning and shifting the school to its new campus. The new school campus has a new design school building with 17 classrooms, offices, laboratories, hall, library room and inbuilt toilet facilities.
The academic year 2017 was yet another milestone in the history of the school. With the joining of the new Principal, Mr. Sonam Phuntsho, the school got upgraded to an interim lower Secondary School to decongest admission pressure in Changzamtog LSS and Lungtenzampa MSS. The sudden up gradation of school to a LSS presented the school with lots of challenges in terms of manpower and resources. However, with the support of the Thromde education office and the hard working and enthusiastic staff the school is striving to provide our children with quality education. Presently, the school has around 1111 students, 65 staff including supporting staff, NFEI and ECCD facilitators.
This academic year, two new vice principals joined our school. The school is very fortunate to have the service of two experienced vice principals Ms. Tashi Chenzom from Motithang HSS and Ms. Metho Pema from Changzamtog LSS.
